Dutch elm disease? I knew a woman who’s nickname was “Tree” and she used to moisten her contact lenses by putting them in her mouth for a second then putting them back on her eyes. I used to say “Tree, you’re going to go blind.” She’d say “from what” and I’d say “from Dutch elm disease.”

This is not funny, and I don’t intend it to be …

A pre-school here has had to shut down under quarantine due to an outbreak of swine flu amongst the kids. All attendees have been asked to stay home for a week to prevent further transmission of the disease and the pre-school will be thoroughly cleaned before re-opening.

We have also had some notable human outbreaks of Hendra Virus in recent years. Transmitted from horses, it produces a high mortality rate in humans.

I once had a problem that had always been a bovine disease & only recently, humans were tested for it!!! the Dr said I was lucky, with the right antibiotic it cleared up in no-time!

    “I’d like a second opinion!”
“Ok, I think you should always be wearing pants.”

No, he shouldn’t be wearing pants. He and the strip were designed to be as simplistic as possible. In the early strips (starting late June 1971) you could often barely tell if he was even wearing a shirt. His design was very simplistic, black and white, minimal backgrounds or accessories. Maybe a tie, a robe, rain hat and umbrella. Only what was needed for the gag, nothing else. The simplicity of Ziggy, emphasizing, his loneliness is what the comic was all about. Putting him in pants and shoes changes the whole dynamic of the comic and makes it something else. Let’s just change his name to Fred and have a whole new comic.
