“The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”), but we do not mind if you pronounce it as “my sequel” or in some other localized way.”
    From What is MySQL?
For all you non-geeks out there.
BTW, MySQL is a lot fun if you like relational databases.

THIS is geek true love? In black and white again? What happened to the Action Comics #1 in mint condition? When did that drop from being the ultimate standard of geek true love?

I worked for 35 years in companies competing with IBM. When we learned that IBM insisted that people say ess-que-ell, that guaranteed we would say it “sequel”. Cumbersome language; typical IBM.

Ah, brings back memories of DbaseIII. Those were the days crafting user menus for shipping invoices and monthly reports. all in Dos 2.0 and brown bag utilities.

This was done in color… No idea why we have BW today. I am guessing it is a MySQL error.

SQL – Standardized Query Language. A way to handle databases, especially relational databases, that’s easy and provides a basic set of common capabilities so you don’t have to custom craft all of your code for each different database.

SQL was originally called SEQUEL. There was an interesting offshoot called “English”, which was the first version I used.

I love geeks! The rumor that geeks are socially inept is plainly false. They just need to hang with people who understand their quirky references.
