No he didn’t, he didn’t “discover” anything.

How could he have “discovered” a place that the natives already knew existed?

Even Europeans knew about the place at least since Lief Ericson sailed to what is believed to now be Labradore in the 1100s.

There is also strong evidence that English fisherman were fishing off the coast of Newfoundland in the early 1400s. Those fishermen kept it a secret because they were afraid that the French and Portugese would move in and ruin the good fishing.

Heck, Columbus didn’t even make it to the mainland of North America. It’s time to get rid of the holiday and celebrate October 9th as Lief Ericson Day since he is the first European to have set foot in North America.

we’re not even sure Ericson was first – St. Brendan may have been here before. Leif and his men, though, are the first they are SURE were here. It certainly wasn’t Columbus

Ol’ Chris was trying to get to India, and missed by over 12,000 miles,
That’s about as lost as it’s possible to be on this planet.
