Coach Carroll’s was not a bonehead decision, nor did he make it lightly. Lots of people make a choice in business, diplomacy, budget or see a card player’s bet or fold. We all make decisions in life, and sometimes the result is not what should have happened, but DID..As the clock wound down, both coaches were considering many factors, time being the main one. Do I use a time-out now, or wait? Should I wait and see if the other guy uses his time-out? Carroll was worried about scoring the touchdown and giving the Pats enough time to march downfield to field-goal range. During 2014, there were 108 instances of a team going for a slant-pass at the 1-yard line, and there were NO interceptions. (not every one resulted in a TD either) He knew how stubborn the Pats defense could be. So he AND HIS STAFF opted for the pass. No one on the Seahawk or Patriot sidelines expected a rookie to get ahead and intercept that ball.If Seattle scored, Carrol is brilliant! Well, it didn’t happen. BOTH teams played well for a full game. Both coaches did their jobs well. But, like Norm Peterson (Cheers) once remarked, we all depend on our local sports teams to give us a shot of meaning in our own dreary lives. And if they don’t deliver, they’re BUMS!Coach Carroll will take the heat for this, unfairly for a loooong time.(I am a Patriot fan)
