Well, from the viewpoint of a Libertarian, every time I hear about these personal regulatory policies it makes me itch. The minute you start regulating, then you leave the door open for changes, “improvements” and additions to the original law. So you start with restricting big gulps, then sugared soda, then soda in general. Our society is getting obsessed with the P.C. way to talk, eat, work, drive etc. Do you wonder why people get spun up when you talk about restricting guns? Many take it as further stripping them of their civil rights. Right or wrong, people perceive that they are losing their personal freedoms and the right to choose their lifestyle. As they taught me when I first started to trade stocks, traders usually move markets on emotion and perception, not reality. Unfortunately our government hasn’t quite gotten down to understanding that the citizens don’t perceive these these Nanny State issues the same as they do.

On the one hand I think people are overreacting to this, on the other hand I think it’s a funny cartoon.

warned: "The minute you start regulating, then you leave the door open for changes, “improvements” and additions to the original law. "
I know! Since they brought in the seat-belt laws they’ve…er…uh, introduced helmet laws and…uh, made cars safer and because we feel we are safer, we take more risks! And in the end, we are more dead on average.
I can imagine that when they ban large cups, folks will drink 2 medium cups worth, which in total is greater than 1 large cup, thereby endangering us even more, inadvertently. Or something.

Just because you are a distance runner you needn’t rub our slovenly noses in it. Actually I am a bike rider and can still pretty easily do 25 – 40 miles on a decent day. Plus I do hike (seriously) in and around some pretty steep hills in my area. That can be tougher on my knees than riding, but then if I wasn’t overweight to begin with. Sigh…

Conservatives have a problem with this because New York is not a corporation, then it would be alright with them…
