Considering we are a democratic republic and our elected representatives are charged to act on the majority will of the people, does anyone else think it strange that Obama encouraged Congress to ignore the will of their constituents and vote as HE thought was right?
anybody who has actually fought in a shooting war wouldn’twish it on their worst enemies…I did 3 tours in ’Nam, and decided that almost anything was preferable to war.
The first thing that all of the totally anti war (and in general I am one of you) types commenting here (where were you all when we so unnecessarily went into direct war in Iraq?) need to consider is just how good is the intelligence that the Syrian military under the control of Assad actually committed the atrocity of gassing its own civilians? Or was such an attack really the rebels trying to blame the Syrian Military for the attack? Or finally, did such an attack even take place at all?
If there was no such an attack, then there is no reason for doing anything at all. If it was the rebels, then we really have no one to punish, as the rebels basically have no military facilities to even attack with such weaponry as RPV’s or cruise missiles.
But, if it actually was Assad and his military that perpetuated such a terrible attack on his own people, then we really (and by we I actually mean the entire civilized world) have a problem. And that is, can we just sit by and do nothing, and thus encourage not only more such attacks upon civilians in Syria, but even such attacks upon other civilians by other Middle Eastern Despots? Even worse does this lack of action then mean that even more horrible weaponry may then be used in such areas as the Middle East. Such as biological, and even nuclear weaponry? So, the situation is NOT really as simple as some here seem to think it is!!
Also, it would seem that with what military preparations our military is getting ready for that this administration is not even considering the endangerment of even American pilots, let alone boots on the ground. In fact, (and can anybody confirm this?) I have read where the military is not even sending any Navy Aircraft Carriers to the immediate area, but will be relying upon only missile carrying ships.
I would not be surprised if the chemical weapons were used by the rebels to get the US to start fighting Asad militarily. Obama should get a UN resolution instead of trying to go this alone. Is President Obama going to return the $1 million for the noble peace prize if he attacks Syria?
