Bad batteries, waiting for someone to bring up the Volt again (two whole fires).

Can’t they replace a lithium battery with a car battery?

It’s not the batteries. It’s the charging system. Just think: Every Prius has hundreds of Lithium Ion batteries.

If you mean aviation grade lead-acid batteries which are similar to car batteries and deep cycle batteries, no they can’t unless they replace the battery charging equipment too. LA batteries require different charging rates, voltages and currents than LI batteries.
As for the batteries in the planes, they may have been a bad batch of batteries

The charging systems are different.

Did you see the fire at the plant in Arziona where they make the plane batteries? Lithium batteries use a flamable liquid.

Just a note: weight is the enemy of anything with wings (fixed or rotary), and lithium ion are much lighter than those massive lead acid “aircraft” batteries. Of course that they are also more likely to overheat, whether in computers, cars, or aircraft, is still a “technical problem” to be worked out. Even a minor flaw in manufacture becomes an “oops” moment!
