Turns out that Paul Krugman and 100 years of economic theory based on observation are true. And trickle-down economics don’t work. I wonder how many times we’ll get to learn that lesson again and again…

Trickle down works until a democrat is elected. Trickle up has NEVER worked.

@ARodney
“Trickle down” as its detractors called in 1920 when it was first proposed has always done what it was supposed to. Make certain people rich or richer an wreck the economy. Now austerity also has a history of trashing democracies an leading to dictatorship. Germany for one in 1933.

You’re talking about people who’ve been falling for the Republican’s communism/socialism boogieman for nearly 100 years.

I can’t express to you what a relief it is that this is being said outloud!
.
I don’t claim ownership to it, but I have been saying since Greece that “You can’t austere your way out of a recession!”
.
Economies are NOT household budgets. You cannot run them the same way.
.
Meanwhile, I tend to think that the cartoonist is being sarcastic in that he seems to be saying that the only thing selling is anti austerity campaign paraphenalia.
.
If that’s true, that’s good enough because despite what Ima (which I tend to read as “I’m an______”) says, the very fcat that the bottom/middle starts to spend is what creates an economy. Economies “Bubble up” or “Spring up” they don’t trickle up and they don’t trickle down.
.
My next hope is that Sarkozy takes this message to Merkle and Germany loosens her girdle.

^ Now all you have to do is convince your fellow Americans that cutting government spending won’t rid you of your economic woes either.

^ Yes, isn’t it ironic that the people that say “Obama is trying to give us European style socialism” are the very ones that want us to continue to follow the European model of failure that is “Austerity?”
.
And can we try to remember that a major portion of what has gone wrong in Europe was that the banks stupidly bought into the US mortgage derivitives markets (it put Iceland and Ireland right out of business!). Yeah, caveot emptor, they should have done their own due dilly.
.
But there had been the USA demanding for the past four decades that Europe adopt the accounting standards that were law int the USA. And Europe FINALLY had done so… Just in time for the USA to say “Oh we don’t need these rules anymore!” BOOM!
.
Given the “wrong” that was done by American Financial Companies to the rest of the world’s economies, the US taxpayer is getting off EASY! If it were a war, and we were paying reparations, it would be costing us a lot more!

^ Agreed entirely.
