Actually, in order to help compensate for the “smaller budgets” the service members and their dependents will be the ones bearing the brunt.
    []
Tuition assistance? Cut off for an entire month.
    []
    Retiree pay? Slashed.
    []
The commissaries that serve as on-base grocery stores? Now closed an extra day each week.
    []
This is on top of other rather asinine sacrifices, like the service members themselves being asked to pay for more of their own supplies out-of-pocket and being made to waste precious training time doing menial tasks like grounds-keeping because the military can no longer afford to hire actual grounds-keeping crews.

Exactly how many times larger than all the other militaries in the world put together is America’s?

My personal opinion is the cuts will eventually cut what should be cut…after the realization sets in that the cuts are real.
It may take a few years, very resistant group.

The USA has such a large military that it dwarfs the next 13 nations militaries put together.

    Personally I would cut,
1: The Joint Strike Fighter, program
    2: Maintaining the Mothball fleets,
3: Projects that have gone over budget by BILLIONS of dollars.
4 Cut the number of Generals, and Admirals.

    Simple Budgeting is whats needed.

^^Very good start, Mychyle. All “contracting” should be reviewed and 90% eliminated. That “groundskeeping” by contractors got going in a serious nature back when I was in in ’68 after returning from ’Nam. It got REALLY serious under NIxon, and since. “Privatizing” the military got a good start then, and then came “BLackwater/xi” et all to actually take over the real “war fighting”, not just groundskeeping.

When we quit trying to be the world’s policeman and focus on what made our county strong and prosperous we will put the military on a serious diet. Year 2000 a budget of 300 billion. Currently it is over 700 billion.

Let those that want our troops and equipment posted in their countries pay for it. If we develop weapons technology, sell it. If we refocus the military spending on R & D to civilian, medical and electronic purposes I have no doubt that we could again be the worlds leader for innovation and technological development.

Coraryan: just a note: it was the Republicans after WWI who put in the policies that bankrupted the country and caused the Great Depression, which also led to reducing the size of the military. It was also folks like Lindbergh and Prescott Bush, “Republicans”, who were the isolationists who didn’t want to get involved with either Germany, OR Japan’s empire, and said we didn’t need to “build up” the military. PLease, study some real history, not the “dittohead Cliff Notes” version.
