“Egypt President Sisi ‘will not interfere’ in al-Jazeera case”

’ “We must respect judicial rulings and not criticise them even if others do not understand this”, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi said.

A court in Cairo found Australian Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed guilty of spreading false news’

Sisi is upholding judicial rulings. Very democratic of him.

I think many folks on this forum will find some affinity with many Egyptians as they do not seem to like Al- Jazeera either:

“While Sisi would placate international critics with a pardon, inside Egypt he would gain little, with many applauding the convictions. Al-Jazeera has been portrayed as an enemy of the state due to the perception that its coverage favours the supporters of Egypt’s ousted president, Mohamed Morsi.”

    I imagine them thinking:
"Meh, they’re Al-Jazeera, let them hang with the rest."

Some people act as if the military rule is recent. It isn’t. Since the fall of the old Egyptian govt 40 years ago and the military has their figure head. Mubarak was their last one, they have a new one.
