    @Rad-ish

    A few years ago I watched a doccie about the homophobic atitudes of the evangelical churches in Uganda. This was about the time homosexuals were being hounded out in the press (and then hunted down & killed ). And up popped an American evangelical preacher in the middle.

    I’m afraid my fellow Africans are generally extremely homophobic; South Africa, for example, has the most progressive constituition in the world, even mentioning sexual orientation protections, but the prevailing attitude in South Africa amongst its citizens is quite homophobic.
    However, my anecdote: I worked for a large corporate for 4 years in South Africa in the late ‘90s. My direct manager was lesbian; her partner was in our HR dept, our financial director was lesbian, we had several openly gay admin & engineering staff. It was the most gay-friendly work place I’d ever experienced. There were coming out parties all the time. But beyond our corporate gates, wow.

    At first I thought I was hearing things when I heard that M7 (Museveni) had halted signing the bill. Was this the M7 I knew? Then I understood: there was donor pressure. But M7 soon didn’t disappoint. After consulting his “scientists” and given certain assurances this bill was indeed correct, he has signed it in (and snubbing his nose at western countries criticising it

    We shall see how well Uganda takes to having less assistance but as "Ofwono Opondo, a spokesperson for Uganda’s government, said on Thursday that the aid cuts show Ugandans “that the world does not owe them a living”.

    “It’s actually a trap for dependence,” he said, talking about donor support."

    Ah, well, that’s ok then.

    South Africa, meanwhile, took notes. :-|

    Not only in Uganda but Nigeria as well. The same ones who want our country to treat those no strictly heterosexual. Not much different from the Nazis who were also very Christian too.

    Ignorance and misinformation about AIDs is the problem
    Associating AIDs with homosexuality is a glaring example of the misinformation I mentioned.
    AIDS in Africa has hit the heterosexual community far more than the homosexual community. Male migrants working far from home engage in unprotected sex with prostitutes near their work place. They contract STDs of all types, take them back home and infect their partners.

    The stimatisation of AIDs has also meant that many that know they’re HIV+ won’t admit it and will carry on as before, spreading the virus further. It has meant that women infected by AIDs are often shunned in their communities.
    This approach of not discussing the disease openly has allowed it to run rampant; spreading misinformation about who AIDs infects has allowed it to run rampant.

    Ignorance about AIDs is killing many.
    Be a good chap and stop spreading misinformation.

    Yeah and our representative to Congress is part of this. He belongs to the Family and I’d love to see him unemployed
