I had a hard time with his show. A Western, dealing with cattle, horses, outlaws and such, but they had phones, that jeep…

Willys Jeeps found their way on many ranches after WWII. Ranches didn’t simply disappear with the advent of modern conveniences.

Nellie Bell the Jeep was our favorite part of the show.
After Roy’s horse Trigger died he was stuffed and put on display.

The show starred Roy Rogers as a ranch owner, Dale Evans as the proprietor of the Eureka Cafe in fictional Mineral City, and Pat Brady as Roy’s sidekick and Dale’s cook. Brady’s jeep Nellybelle had a mind of her own and often sped away driverless with Brady in frantic pursuit on foot. Animal stars were Roy’s Palomino horse, Trigger and his German Shepherd wonder dog, Bullet.

Radish, Trigger wasn’t the only one they had stuffed. The one time I got to visit the Roy Rogers Museum when it was in Victorville, CA I saw Trigger, Trigger Jr., Buttermilk and Bullet all stuffed and on display, not to mention several big-game trophies from his hunting trips to Africa. (Including an elephant!)
By the way, Roy wasn’t a rival of Gene Autry. He was carefully groomed to be Autry’s successor.

One of Trigger’s tricks was being able to count by stomping his feet.
Apparently, he was really watching the trainer off screen, not really counting.
    I found that surprisingly disillusioning.

I always felt sorry for stuffed Trigger, I thought it was very exploitative.
