Either way, the taxpayers foot the bill.

How reconstruction works in when republicans have a say, everything gets rebuilt with hot air and pounding sand.

The cartoon is a good depiction of what will happen when the next force 3 to 5 storm strikes the Gulf or Atlantic Coasts. In parts of NC and VA, it is my understanding that people living on the shoreline are finding insurance to be either unattainable or very expensive. I wonder what folks in NJ and NY are experiencing.
If people are going to live in areas where the water gets high, they should live in barges. There are ways to place such homes so they only rise up and down with the water rather than getting pushed inland. But that too is expensive.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Cheaper than real houses, and just as durable. Of course, unitl Katrina the Federal Flood Insurance program cost $0 tax monies, had billions in the bank and was fully funded by premiums.

Climate change now requires a new view into how to protect the trillions of dollars invested in at risk areas as weighed against the economic outputs of those regions as well as the lives of the people there.

On the Outer Banks my house is built on pilings pounded deep into the ground and there is nothing on the ground floor except for the out-door shower and storage closets for beach supplies.

Good choice. Different from those people in Virginia Beach who built homes on stilts with the water heater, HVAC unit, and the breaker boxes on the ground floor…..

If people continue to build houses to the edge of the ocean, then they should build houses up and expect to go home with a sail boat.
I’m all about helping the needy, the ones GOP likes to call lazy bums, but my my thoughts are "no body is making them live there.
they knew the risks but they always have known that the government will pay them and give them money to rebuild.
If they could be moved up and away, have some rule that only visitors And vacationers are allowed , and the rest can be at least 5 miles away.
I know those people feel entitled to live there, even those who know the oceans are rising.
the weather is changing, whether it’s man made or not, we deal with the results of that change.
