Higher taxes and no real cuts to spending or the debt. Yeah O’s a real “winner”.

Obama has cut Medicare costs quite substantially already (remember Romney claiming he was taking $700 billion out of Medicare? He did, just not from senior’s benefits.) But as Paul Krugman has noted, saving money in government doesn’t seem to count unless you actually hurt the old or poor. If we aren’t actively hurting the old and the poor, how can we possibly expect the rich to be willing to pay a little more? Now the Republicnas have a plan that will not only hurt the old and the poor, it damages the entire nation! That’s a serious plan, now!

Saw some good news today (I get my news at work from the international ticker so its not influenced by American Politics)
Global external news | Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (December 10)
    US economy picking up
Chemicals, machines and computers are increasingly being produced in the US again – partly due to the fact that energy is very cheap there. More than half a million industrial jobs have been created after the worst of the recession…. I know the Foxettes will claim its false but why would Germans cook American books?

This cartoon, along with Matt Wuerker’s Dec. 10 toon, justifies the grotesque and vulgar attacks on Democrats made by conservative cartoonists. They are free speech, they are popular with their base, but they are vulgar, divisive, and fail to elevate, or add to, the ongoing debates. The more you insult a party, Dem or Rep, the more you encourage them to dig in their heels. In an effort to save face and pride, the most partisan of these ‘tribes’ will, and have in the past, vote against issues with which they agree, and would help the nation, but would add to making them “look bad.”

    Respectfully disagree.
    .
The reason that Jon Stewart is the most popular and respected newsman in the US is because he is irreverant, funny and honest at the same time. It’s the same holy grail that cartoonists seek.
    .
The humorless shouldn’t be looking at political cartoons. They shouldn’t even be here.
    .
PS: I thought the Wuerker comic was great.

I love Jon Stewart. My avatar is the sign I carried to the Rally for Sanity/Fear he had. I also record his show to watch because some of the material that comes on during the show just makes me groan, and I hit the 30sec leap button. My son is amazed that I love the Marx Brothers, 3 Stooges, and other old comedies that made my parents and grandparents roll their eyes and decry the fall of civilization but I can’t stay in the same room with so many popular tv shows like 3 & a half men, south park, et al. I don’t know when I became my grandfather, but I try to be good.
    That said-
You and I have both criticized the way conservative cartoonists have depicted the President and some of the dems. My comment was not an attack on the cartoons as much as it was a simple recognition that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
I have been enjoying many of your posts on other cartoons and I totally agree with the context of your comment to me. I may be becoming a prude.
    shoot me….
    shoot me now.
    Respectfully,
    & appreciatively,
    C.
