Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

Maybe someone can explain Ryan’s Medicare voucher system to me: Why would you give seniors $6000 a year and then dictate that they spend it on health care?
-
Isn’t that forcing people to spend their money the way the government dictates? Isn’t that, uh, un-American?
-
Also, Ryan voted for Medicare Part D. Is that a contribution to how ‘broken’ Medicare is?

It’s a shell game anyway. The real question is whether Americans will continue to tolerate certain groups imposing their will on them through political manipulation. Both sides do it. And both sides walk out 4 to 6, etc years later with the bag of loot (their winnings for shilling for their corporate and/or elitists benefactors.
Thank you.

My understanding is that nothing changes for anyone 55 or over. Younger people will be given the option to opt out of Medicare and buy into a voucher program. And, by the way, it’s not giving people $6000 a year, it’s a return of the money they paid into the program. If you put money into an IRA, is someone giving you that money when you withdraw it during retirement?

This is a classic caricature of liberals’ MO of framing conservatives and republicans. They employ nothing but scare tactics because they know that they themselves have nothing upon which to stand. The facts and truth are stacked against liberalism and Marxism.

So, anyone 54 years old gets 11 years to pay into a voucher system and then they get their $6k/year and they have to spend that on health care?
-
Why cut off at 55? If cutting Medicare is so great for the country, shouldn’t it apply to all ages?

Why cut it off at 55? So that you can still give current voting seniors (curiously enough the bloated baby boomers) a treasured entitlement while taking it away from younger people. The good news is that newly found wealth should trickle down by then. Yep. It will. Really.

You still have the option for the traditional Medicare program, if that’s what you want. It’s called a choice. you know, its like that pro-choice thing.

What’s fascinating is that the Romney-Ryan budget is stitched together almost entirely from tax cuts. But it works because of the prosperity.

It’s a fact…Liberal cartoonist use more ink and time than the Repubs to get their point across; S. Benson, T. Auth, Oliphant, Sargent, Toles. These cartoonists produce Sistine Chapel-like artwork to accompany their hackneyed liberal potshots. Over-compensation?

That’s because it takes longer to draw a cartoon than it does to write ME! ME! ME!
