Well, there’s GOT to be SOMETHING the GOP can run on… I mean, for the last 30 years, they’ve been fighting the good fight against… uh, against… wait, hold on… well, come to think of it, they really haven’t had a lot to work with since the Soviets imploded.

Not so Wildcard, the Repubs DID successfully exploit 9/11 in two elections.

Though let’s be honest here. What did the Dems do to THEIR base, soon as they got in two years ago? Threw ‘em under the bus in the name of ‘bipartisanship’.

No, they’ve been fighting the good fight against the interests all the terrible people in this country who are “real Americans” – you know, what’s usually called simply ‘the majority.’

    Who’s black???

The 911 “Truthers” in the Democratic party were able to move on, so I’m thinking that the Republicans will too.

The birth certificate issue finally became inconvenient for Dear Leader, so he finally settled it. Now we can all move on to opposing his disastrous agenda. You too, liberals. He can only thrive in office if you believe what he tells you. Become the government-skeptics you were in the ’60s. It’s far better than taking it as gospel just because the supreme head of the regime said it.

Don’t you just LOVE how desperate the righties are getting, trying to put the spin on Obama producing the birth certificate?

“He’s playing the race card….no, no wait, can you believe he was focusing on this instead of important issues?…I-I mean what took him so long? Okay, but it was Hillary who started it, so THERE!”

And again Jmatt….just because the ultra-cons treated Bush as THEIR ‘Dear Leader’,doesn’t mean us Dems do the same with Obama.

Much as you might wish that were so.

Simon, I acknowledge the left’s current beef with Obama. Just like I hope you recognize the beefs we had with Bush. We idolize Reagan, (eh hem!) While I do believe Obama is a socialist, it’s the creepy children singing songs of praise to a sitting president tha inspired me to call him Dear Leader.

^At the risk of sounding terribly politically incorrect, I truly believe that Mr. Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer’s while he was still in office, and he just happened to be the Current Resident of the White House when the USSR imploded with no help from US. He was asleep at the wheel. The conservatives who idolize Reagan are simply lost in the same fog that he was in.

^Didn’t you hear the “Tear down this wall” speech? After that the commies went down. Or so the story goes.

Tony, When I read the elephant’s comment - “…gotta move on.” It just brings to mind Lipps Inc. “Funkytown”. Which is something that elephant would never sing.

    Wonderful image though :)

look where the “paranoid fantasies” hosenoses have led their people. when one has to check ‘snopes” three times a day, it’s not a fantasy, it’s total paranoia and basic doubt in our guvment, duh…

Reagan really was a worse president than even the Bushes precisely because he was so ideologically successful: he fooled the country, and the country stayed fooled. He resurrected chest-thumping, myopic, xenophobic, self-righteous so-called “patriotism” and made out-and-out self-serving greed and selfishness respectable again. He did more damage to the country in the long run than either Nixon or Bush.

Unfortunately, the democrats have only given us Carter and Clinton since, and now Obama. Obama is the best man we have had in the white house in my conscious lifetime (I’m only 55), but that isn’t enough. “Be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves,” was the advice given by a genuine “dear leader” to his apostles. Perhaps “crafty as foxes” would be the better metaphor now. It is a rare combination.

The president needs to have more than virtue, and even more than personal wisdom, he needs to be a subtle and crafty chess player. We’d probably be better off with a reformed crook than a Sunday-school teacher.
