Dale, do you know what this is about?

You’re going to get in trouble with Sharpton too….LOL
That Delona cartoon sure has “controversy” written all over it…

I guess Al Sharpton and the rest of the folks that “live to be offended” just didnt take the time to figure out that it was Pelosi and Reid that wrote the stimulus bill.

now if the cop had been saying “now we gotta find someone else to SIGN the stimulus bill” they might have had beef.

as it is, they have tofu.

No, it went over the top. From Salon.com: “Vanity Fair writer Michael Wolff, who recently authored a biography of Post owner Rupert Murdoch – has weighed in.

‘As a student of the Post and of Murdoch and his people, let me suggest the likelihood that Allan and the Post are well off the post-modern reservation. That Allan’s personal and tabloid anger, never so carefully in check, has burst into the open in an incredible spasm of tone deafness and – say it – racism. For one thing, there is, blatantly, jaw-droppingly, without disguise or camouflage or deniability, the conflation of the new president with the mad chimpanzee, who, the day before, mauled a woman. For another, no editorial cartoon at the Post can get into the paper without Allan approving it. He saw it; he got it; he bought it; he published it.

‘Barack Obama has been a long-simmering issue at the Post. He offends both its tabloid conservatism (however cool and witty it may have become) and, too, its latent, unreconstructed Australian tabloid – again, say it – racism. He offends it even more because Rupert Murdoch, the Post’s owner and virtual Godhead, rather likes Obama. The more and more liberal Murdoch – indeed, he was in Australia earlier this month pressing for looser immigration rules – has stifled the Post’s reflexive contempt.

‘So the dam burst. Repressed for most of the past year, the id suddenly broke free. Forget the post-modern crap. This is real, old-fashioned, tabloid hate.

‘Murdoch, I can make an educated guess, is livid. And Col Allan is shortly on his way back to Australia.’”

    Interesting, eh?

This is the issue… the lack of humor and relevance of the NYP cartoon… i mean drawing (cuz cartoons are funny) … leads me to the conclusion that it was done with malicious intent. With just enough cover to say its not what he meant… which is quite the bichass move…

I think the right doesn’t see how one could interpret this toon as racist, because they have no clue how racism affects the victim(s).

Can we just agree it’s lame and start the rampage of killing and looting now? My pitchfork hand is getting mighty itchy.

Delona has had a history of racist, sexist and homophobic remarks… NY Post went too far and now apologized!

    It’s more than a lack of a “t” between a wit and a twit!

al sharpton is still wrong for wanting to put folks in jail for what they think…

even if RM and the post are racists…

  13. motivemagus

    motivemagus said, 11 months ago

The Post only sort of apologized. They did that lame “if you were offended, we’re sorry you’re so touchy” kind of apology that refuses to acknowledge the basic offensiveness of their act, and then aims a slap at Sharpton. Kind of undermines the sincerity of the act.

This thing isn’t about Al Sharpton. Sharpton spoke up because that’s what he does. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do the same when the situation merits. It was a racist comic and Delona needed to be called on it.

So “monkey” as metaphor is off limits? So much for free speech. What better describes the actions of the Congress in regards to the stimulus bill? I think the “outraged” are guilty of a deeper rooted and unspoken racism against African Americans.

The full term is: “porch monkey” and alluding to it in full or shortened form is just as off limits as the ‘N’ word which was never used in an official capacity.
If you haven’t lived through that you don’t know the first thing about it…
    it’s Racist, let it go.

    One more thing…

In the cartoon in question, the Obama-chimp is depicted as having been shot dead.

NO ONE ever drew a chimp-cartoon about Bush in that context, not even Steve Bell of the Guardian.

” Me thinks they doth protest too much” The editor-in-chief of the Post wrote:”The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.”

If you are the one yelling racism, maybe you should check the mirror.

teaguemj, I call ‘em as I see ‘em and say “racism”, but if I am checking the mirror I’ll be seeing me reading that cartoon!
