So which terrorists did Saddam Hussein support? Maybe Bolling believes he had WMDs as well?

Which terrorists did Saddam support? Himself, for one; he directed terrorist activities against Kurds in Iraq. If you don’t want to count state actors as terrorists for some reason, he also sent pensions to the families of suicide bombers in Palestine. (In the same programme, he sent pensions to the families of Palestinian victims of Israeli terror, so that’s anti-terrorist. But now you have to count state actors as terrorists.)

Saddam also had and used WMDs (chemical and biological), although they were long gone by the time of the Bush invasion.

Which is kinda the point, right? Bush knew (as did anyone who paid any attention to what the international inspectors on the ground in Iraq were saying) that Saddam no longer had poison gas or a nuke-you-lar weapons program. Dubya just lied to us.

I’m not entirely sure what FNT’s point was, so we might have to ask them. But no, Bush did not know that Saddam no longer had chemical weapons. Even among the anti-war crowd (where cognitive dissonance wouldn’t interfere or would even go the other way), this was not known. The IAEA inspectors had just gotten back in and hadn’t finished looking, so they didn’t help.

Around the time that Colin Powell sold his soul and made his speech to the UN, I remarked that the evidence that the Bush administration presented for Saddam’s WMDs was so flimsy that maybe he didn’t really have any. This compelled a fellow anti-war protester to lecture me that I shouldn’t idealize Saddam Hussein and fall into the trap of thinking, just because war was unjustified, that the target of the proposed war must be a good guy. I was indignant, insisting that I wasn’t so naïve, that of course I knew that Saddam Hussein was a terrible person and had used chemical weapons in the past, and that I wasn’t claiming that he didn’t have any; only that you would expect the U.S. to find some credible evidence, so it was just possible that he really didn’t anymore.

So no, we didn’t know. Bush pretended to know that Saddam had them, but he didn’t know that Saddam didn’t.
