I don’t believe in “if” anymore
“If” is for children building daydreams.

Not far off from what I read, Olfart.
A write suggested that when you use the word but, you make all the words said prior meaningless.
    “He’s a nice guy, but…” (he’s not a nice guy)
    “It’s a good idea, but…” (bad idea)
Over the past two weeks, I’ve heard some Republicans who have supported some very conservative positions called RINOs and find themselves challenged from people who are even further to the right.
If Independents, moderates, and Democrats actually go to the polls to vote, this wave of ultra conservatism will enable an even more empowered ultra liberal gov’t which, history has shown, is also damaging to gov’t and unity.
It is truly time for moderates on both sides to come together. Compassionate conservatives and fiscally responsible liberals are urgent for the long term success of our nation.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Why? What you suggest-which is basiclly impossible anyway, would just momentarily forestall the ineascapable collapse of society as we knew it. This WILL happen, and it will be on an almost global scale(think, Roman empire). Because of human nature, I really don’t see how it can be averted.

Rome fell centuries after people stopped writing, ‘Rome has fallen into decadence after forsaking the Republic for an Empire. Our young people only care about having fun. Our old people are too lethargic. Nothing is getting done.’ They wrote that in the first century. Rome didn’t fall until the fifth.

So, as long as people like you have time to write that the American-led world is doomed, we still have a few centuries left.

not sure we have a few centuries left. more like a decade or two before the Chinese surpass us. In America we value material things over education, right now the Chinese value education over material things. That will change when they surpass us, but with over 1 billion people they will be hard to overtakes again.

As to our government it is sad when compromise becomes a bad word. The purpose of the 2 party system is supposed to be government by compromise. Damn I forgot the Tea Baggers hate government

I’m split on the need for background checks for guns. Anytime the government wants to restrict access to guns, we ned to carefully assess the long-term impact on freedom. With food stamps we need to remember that under Obama the number of people on food stamps has sky rocketed. We have gone from something like 1 million people on food stamps 25 years ago to something like 47 million today; and most of that growth was under Obama. Sure we want to assist in feeding the hungry; but food stamps today is more like a free entitlement to many that can afford to buy food.

Correction: The food stamp program has never, ever been cut. Thy’ve just tried to slow down the spending. More people on food stamps now than in the history of the program. Look it up.

For a family of 3 on the SNAP program, food stamps are cut $29 a month.

Obama has practically given away the farm to them for years. The record shows it was the Teapublicans obstructing. That is what they ran on in the first place.

What "ultra Liberals do you mean? They are not in any organized fashion or in the Democrat party. The imbalance is so great we would need and equally large counter balance just to return to some kind of equilibrium.

Even so Rome both its republic, its Republic inside and Empire outside, then a full Empire lasted in all nearly 2,000 years. Thought the Rome at the beginning and the two at its end were very dissimilar.

China is far from surpassing us even at the end of our Republic. However there is a good chance an Empire will replace it.
