    this is good logic… if we carry it to its conclusion, the diametrically opposed sides of congress also have something in common that they can rally around … to wit… almost every one in the country vehemently despises them.

    A 10% approval rating, and yet over 90% of them get re-elected each time.
    I want a job like that.

    Their other commonalities are that almost all of them are millionaires and almost all of them are wholly owned.

    Well, as a guy once said in my state (Massachusetts), “Ted Kennedy may be a drunk, pants around his ankles, womanizing satyr, but he’s OUR drunk, pants around his ankles, womanizing satyr.”
    Is that enough of an explanation??

    Sadly, yes.
    It sounds like the reason a lot of pols in my state get re-elected.

    As a rule congressmen are not accountable for anything they do, because at re-election time they all say, “It was those OTHER congressmen who did it! You have to re-elect me so I can go on fighting those OTHER congressmen!” That nearly always works, but we might be reaching the point when it won’t work any more.

    I read an article once (can’t remember where) that showed most people thought their congress member was OK, but all the rest were a bunch of slimy crooks and should be voted out.

    Sounds like the way a lot of people think of their immediate family;
    They’re perfect, but everyone else sux.
