Not only that! Now they’ve made a book of “The Lord Of The Rings”, too! Talk about milking the franchise!

About the only movie/book combination where the book was finished after the movie was 2001: A Space Odyssey. Clarke did an excellent job of filling in the gaps and explaining why H.A.L. did what he did.

    Look at Harry Potter.
“The Order of the Phoenix” skips the first 500 pages!!! :D

I had a similar reaction but with the CORRECT blame: I saw Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and then I read the original.
I couldn’t believe how much Disney had butchered Kipling’s story.

My step son made the same comment about the movie M.A.S.H. He thought it was based on the series. I had to explain to him which came first. Just the same old arguement….which came first…..the chicken or the egg.

Try reading original material like “Dracula” etc. It shows how much is used, distorted and left out. “I Am Legend” still hasn’t been fully filmed yet..

One summer I read Bram’s Dracula and Shelley’s Frankenstein. After watching so many of the movies, I was curious as to the origins. (I was around 12 or 13).

I still do that on occasion. If a movie or TV series intrigues and I know it was based on a book – I get the book.
Some things don’t translate well to the big or small screen. (some of Stephen King’s stories). I sure there must be something out there better on the screen than the book. ….. Any suggestions for that?
