Another goon free rideing off the blood sweat and tears of others and complaining that he’s not getting his moneys worth

One thing is thinking that way – another is having the intelligence to know when its a good way to spurt it out … or in general be diplomatic about it.

Lennie’s implied threat of violence rather proves the writer’s point. Think like we want or we beat the crap out of you has been an all too familiar meme lately. The idea of a sacrifice to protect ‘our freedoms’ hasn’t rung true since 1945, and wasn’t really true before 1941 either. The list of interventions and wars, not to mention the genocidal nature of the way west in the early history of our nation, does make a thoughtful person angry. Had Memorial Day retained it’s original form as a day of decorating the graves of the Civil War dead it might be a different story, but it has been swept up by the jingoistic thinking of the present and we are all expected to be apologists for eternal war instead of recognizing that all soldiers are the victims even as they are the perpetrators.

A threat against someone voicing an opinion, however wrong it might be, is even worse, in my opinion, even if it is just supposed to be a joke.

Gosh John, how insightful! I only wish I knew YOUR home address, so that I could, you know, come over to visit! Maybe we could “discuss” your lack of respect for the sacrifice of your betters who died for your right to be an asshole!
