I wonder if fleas and other ecto-parasites should be disqualified for their haematophagic activities which may give an unfair performance enhancement and are also somewhat disrespectful to their hosts.

I would think any blood sucking parasite would greatly represent the Olympics.

Whenever I see a reference to blood-sucking parasites, it’s usually political.

If the IOC had not allowed the professional athletes to compete then the blood sucking parasites would not have gotten in.

The Media overblown coverage of the “Infected” waters in Rio were a telling sign on how they inflate minor problems into ridiculously major ones. Where are all the sick athletes after competing on the “fetid” waters? All the horrible violence that were suppose to happen ( they jumped all over the phony “event” by that dumb irresponsible swimmer)? All the embarrassing bad organization? Unfortunately we all should distrust most Media organizations.

Wrestling would be perfect for blood sucking parasites because they can adjust their weight class so easily.

Hmmm, I’m not sure I’d take it quite that far, but I do agree with your general point, Yless: That the media benefit when the drama is increased, and sometimes, maybe often, that means that our perception of problems and crises is tainted. So too, often seriously problems are airbrushed away for a happy ending, as was also the case in Rio (the health, corruption and crime problems raised by the media before and during the Olympics didn’t just go away after the Olympic flame was extinguished). Suffice it to say – Vigilance and diverse coverage are essential for a grounded world view. And obviously The Lost Bear is part of a healthy media diet. : ) BTG
