   My childhood friend, David, would eat butter and sugar sandwiches daily. That’s all they were, two pieces of white bread smeared with butter and heaped with granulated sugar.

   I once took a bite and to this day I can still feel the sugar boring into my teeth and creating vast and deep chasms.
