    That’s even better than “The engineer sees it as the glass is too large”.

    I have a friend who always says: it’s better when the glass is half empty, so you can re-fill it, which you cannot with a half full glass.

    And while the optimist and the pessimist argue over whether the glass is half-empty or half-full, the opportunist drinks the contents.

    The glass is completely full. Half with liquid half with air.

    Better than top half full and bottom half empty

    I refill half-full glasses all the time.

    Actually, the glass appears to be half-emptied. It looks like it is being consumed, or is evaporating, and thus becoming empty. If more were being poured in, it would be half-filled. Full and empty are like a vacuum or pregnancy — there is no “half.”

    Ollie: Go ahead and drink your half
    (Stan drinks the sassafras and coughs)
    Ollie: Do you know what you’ve done? (Stan nods) What made you do it?
    Stan: (gets upset) I couldn’t help it
    Ollie: Why?
    Stan: My half was on the bottom! (cries)

    I have a friend that claims the right course of action is to dump the water out of the glass and fill it with beer.

    This perception stuff isn’t as simple as a glass of water.

    @le-roy

    That answer makes a lot of sense, it isn’t the state of the glass that determines the answer, it is the action being taken with regard to the beer (lemonade for younger contributors to this forum) in the glass.
