The Born Loser began in 1965 as a strip with no central characters that revolved around the loser theme. Gradually, it developed into the comic we see today, starring lovable loser Brutus Thornapple, his wife Gladys, mother-in-law Ramona Gargle, boss Rancid Veeblefester, dim-witted son Wilberforce and the mischievous neighbor Hurricane Hattie O'Hara.
Artist Chip Sansom began apprenticing for his father, Born Loser creator Art Sansom, in 1977. He became a full-time assistant, and gradually took on an ever-increasing role in the drawing and gag-writing duties until his father passed away in 1991.

As a Flyers fan for just under 40 years (I started following them as a 9-year-old boy the very season that they wound up winning their first Stanley Cup), I have given up on the National Hockey League, thanks to Gary Bettman.
The NHL flipped off its fans, who pay their extortionate salaries, ticket prices and merchandise prices.
It’s time for the fans to return the gesture.
The ticket prices are so high that I haven’t been able to afford to go to a Flyers game since April 26, 1981.

Strike 3, you’re out!

they weren’t on strike. The team owners locked the players out.,

This is why they don’t have baseball in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (an area notorious for its government jobs and worker entitlement): Every time the umpire yells “STRIKE” everyone walks off the field…

Couldn’t agree with you more, I used to be a big Islander fan back in the 80s. The team hasn’t been good since Mike Bossy retired. All these strikes have put me off on the league. Gary Bettman couldn’t run a hot dog stand correctly.

I still enjoy the thrill whenever the pitcher kicks the puck into the basket.

I’ve studied this, and with out a doubt, “losers” are quick to call others names!

Technically, it was a lock-out. Don’t blame the players.

Both you and Ashburn are true hockey fans. Sadly, the arenas are filling up again and fans have forgiven Buttman and Daly. (I blame neither Fehr nor the players.) And yet these guys take in $7MILLION a year for doing the bidding of the greedhead owners who, like most bosses (Rancid, anyone?) would pay the players nothing if they could.
On the other hand, your (Ashburn) Flyers offered Ryan Suter $100 million contract, which is nuts, and your (Alex) Islanders are still paying off DiPietro’s ridiculous deal. Can you blame the players for taking the money? No.
But the fans suffer.
Except here in Toronto where they will love and cheer for the Leafs no matter how bad they are.
At least my Habs are doing well so far, with their contingency of (hee hee!) ONE francophone Kaybecer and half a dozen Americans.
Ashburn, is there any chance your Phillies would trade Doc back to my jays if they are contending in July?
