I would like to announce that I have finished a four year eight month project of restoring a 1908 Gavioli & Cie Tracker Fairground Organ that fills a trailer 28’x6’10”, and with the fascia attached is 15’8” tall. This mechanically played organ is not a complete, historically accurate restoration: I was not able to completely rebuild the player mechanism, so the machine reads its music from a MIDI controller.
    .
The organ made use of holes punched into “books” of heavy fanfold paper to play its music. I used a linier array of photocells to read the some 2,000 books that came with the organ into MIDI files that will play the organ, including all but three books of two boxes of books that had been marked: “Too damaged to play.” I also converted 156 Wurlitzer 165 model band organ rolls with ten songs each into Gavioli format files. I also created more than 300 additional files for songs that were popular after 1940.
    .
Saturday morning I will roll my new toy out of the garage, onto the driveway, attach the fascia, and boil up a head of steam. Shortly after six AM, just after my neighbor fires up his lawn tractor with its 29 horsepower motor and forever-defective muffler, I will fire up my completed project, at full volume, and play a song for him that he hates! I keyboarded a file just for him: DIXIE! Eight full minutes of Dixie in Grand Organ mode, with trumpets reeds and percussion.
    .
After more than five years of putting up with that idiots clattering, banging, rumbling mechanical monstrosity at 131 Db 25 feet from his yard, with the Neighborhood Association allowing him to “exercise his right to care for his lawn,” and disturb every neighbor within 150 yards; Let the Neighborhood Association try to quiet my band organ. I will sue the pants off them. I have a four-hour playlist ready.
    .
Did I mention that my favorite lawn care expert has a brother-in-law on the Neighborhood Council, and complains about everything from loose cats to kids practicing the trumpet outdoors.

    Wonderful, just wonderful.
There is a Wurlitzer museum in North Tonawanda, New York. My Uncle Billy, who lived in the area, clued me in on it and I took us over there to see it one day. The original Wurlitzer Park property is now commercial on the north side and a WalMart on the south.

I think what you are planning is better than machine gunning the place full of holes. I might expect your other neighbors to come out and cheer you on. Where is this wonderful neighborhood you will be performing in and how much for tickets ?

Check the top of the page, books on Udig, including Ten Cats Enterprises. And the other two are great too.

It will be a free show: Hickory Hills in Springfield MO.
    .
I have been trying the Fairground Organ at 15PSI steam, I haven’t fired it to the rated 50 PSI yet, but I am expecting just under 140 Db.

Here is a video sampler of a similar organ, but smaller. The 89 Key has only three ranks of pipes, the 104 key has five and a keyboard for manual play.

What shame that Oliver isn’t old enough to be ordering without parental consent.

I hate HOA’s, inconsiderate neighbors and such, (seriously how much can a new muffler cost?) if they give you a hard time just tell them you are “just blowing off some steam.”
