    Some species of animals would not be around at all but for zoos and other conservation efforts. This IS mostly a result of human interaction as populations explode all over 3rd world countries (and among the poorest peoples here). Unlike other species, humans have not the common sense to limit reproduction in accordance with the actual food supply. After 4 kids, I insisted on having a ligation but my X made that as difficult as he could.

    We finally meet one of Annie’s grandparents.! I think he’ll be proud of her once she explains why she released the canary.Will a canary survive in the wild?

    Yes the canary will survive if he has enough to eat and doesn’t get eaten-just like his life would be in the wild.

    The canary isn’t necessarily out in the wild. My grandparents had a parakeet named Pepe, and they left the cage door open all the time so he could fly throughout their flat. Many times he would land on someone’s head and leave his calling card. He always returned to the cage, because that’s where his food and water was.

    @DAZZ
    Agreed. I plan to study zoology and veterinary medicine so I can work in a Zoo as an adult. I want to take care of the animals that so few people want to take care of. We are the reason they don’t have any other place to live. We at least owe them a decent enclosure and a longer life than they would otherwise have.

    I hate to agree with some of you if it was not for zoos some of the animals would not be here

    “When we deny them their nature, we do them great harm”

    Conservation of species is one thing…. Putting animals in cages on display, using them for industry or using them for entertainment is something else….. Maybe Annie saw “the Cove” ? Maybe Bluebell is the true animal lover, and whispers in Annie’s ear??

    I’m not giving up my canary. He is safe. He is well fed. And if I “freed” him, he would die.

    And he resides in a flight cage.

    @lookinside

    Those are not canaries. They are gold finch.
    Wild canaries are brown, and don’t reside in North America.

    Animals act like they hate to be penned up, but the fact is, they don’t know what to do with freedom. And a lot of times it kills them.

    Reproduction isn’t always the issue. Many animals are dying due to loss of habitat and poaching. The panda, tiger and gorilla come quickly to mind.
