Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) was an American author. He is best known as an early influence in the science fiction genre, specifically through the creation of his best known series, Tarzan of the Apes and John Carter of Mars. He was a prolific author in general and made contributions to many other genres.

The Tarzan writer may have been talking about the Sahara. @BigBluephrog said “Ask any Iraq War veteran and they’ll confirm the temp swings.” I, personally, could not confirm those temp swings. Nor could @jmcx4. And to get technical, even the “have been observed” temp swings were 70 degrees, not 100

Of course he was talking about the Sahara. That’s my point. And that’s where Tarzan is. That said, you’re also right: 100 degrees is well wide of the mark of the stated observed swing. We’d be dealing with the highest recorded temperature versus the lowest, very nearly, which didn’t happen on the same day since records have been kept.
Dramatic license, have to love it.
