Sports is Tank McNamara’s beat, his livelihood. A former professional football player who’s now a TV sportscaster, Tank McNamara reports on the breaking sports stories of the day: the hot players and angry coaches, the pending lawsuits and drawn-out strikes, the constant roar and ever-increasing hype that make organized sports one of the world’s most lucrative businesses.

@wecatsgocomics
At some point we’ll have to start calling him APC.

Wasn’t Tank always on the DEFENSIVE line?

@Godfreydaniel
i thought so, too.
wasn’t there a story arc in the very early days of the strip where he had to overcome his thoughts that anything that was dropped on the ground was a fumble – and in need of being leapt upon to “recover” said fumble?

If he loses weight will his chin move up too?
timbob2313 said, 4 months ago
yyyguy, yes there was. I thought he was a defensive lineman.
So Bill, are we wrong?

I know for sure that Tank was a defensive lineman in the NFL but possibly he was on the O-line when he was a Fighting Sandcrab? I’m not sure if it was ever specified. I know his kind of “cuddly” personality contrasted with his frightening size was always part of his appeal.

Wow, I am impressed by the knowledge of Tank’s background. He originally was described, 38 years ago, as a former defensive tackle for the Houston Oilers. Yikes! One of the advantages of being a cartoon character is your history is adjustable. Otherwise, tank would be close to 70 years old. To me Tank is a gentle giant, not a scary, attacking giant. So I moved him to the offense side of the ball.

Thanks for this update, Mr. Hinds. I only have two of the Tank books myself (“The Tank McNamara Chronicles” and “God Intended Blonde Boys to be Quarterbacks”) but I DID read them both recently, lol. I think Tank is a VERY gentle giant.

I’m pretty sure that all linemen – defensive AND offensive – are taught to leap on any ball on the ground. If they’re on defense, it creates a turnover. If they’re on offense, it prevents a turnover.
