Sports is Tank McNamara’s beat, his livelihood. A former professional football player who’s now a TV sportscaster, Tank McNamara reports on the breaking sports stories of the day: the hot players and angry coaches, the pending lawsuits and drawn-out strikes, the constant roar and ever-increasing hype that make organized sports one of the world’s most lucrative businesses.

College bowl games and national championship ccming up (minus Penn State and Ohio State). NFL playoffs around the corner. New basketball season at all levels. NHL strike / lockout. Lots of other sports news. Why this ???

Because dating’s a sport too. Very hazardous.

Dating is even more hazardous when it’s full-contact, Australian rules (how come everything with “Australian rules” in the name is so bloody?)

There’s a bit of an in-joke here. Recently deceased Jeff Millar actually once wrote a produced play set in a neighborhood “ice house” (as it is known in Houston parts). Perhaps there’ll be brief story lines devoted to his various pursuits.

I am sorry to hear that Jeff Millar died. My condolences to Bill Hinds in the death of his cartoonist partner.

Maybe the professor has an ice problem?
I’m sorry to hear that Jeff Millar has died; this is the first I’ve heard of it. Luckily his legacy can continue. I think it would be an excellent idea for Bill Hinds to toss in some low-key tributes to his old partner.

I just looked it up. He died of cancer on November 30, age 70. The strip has been going since 1974.

Why? Because it’s more interesting than jokes about sports trivia? :p
