    Wow, cynical or what. But at least with the top two, it’s over quickly.

    If Max had really been cynical, he would have suggested the bottom one was a woman-made trap.

    A trap of his own making.

    And I only recently, finally saw the series finale (so far, at least) for “Futurama” where Fry puts his ring for Leela inside a large clam.

    The guy buys the ring, asks the girl and puts the ring on her finger. As Brian Ponshock said – ‘A trap of his own making’. Very seldom are shotguns used these days.

    @Bargrove

    Good response, but still have to go with cynical even if it’s man made. The top two traps are just too sinister. My first insipid comment was going to be maybe Pastis should get together with Garcia as they both seem to be having “family” problems. Of course there is no truth to that as someone pointed out in yesterday’s strip; Pastis is still happily married. When I suggested the strip was cynical, it was not a comment about the cartoonist, the two are not bound. The fact that you referenced him by his first name seemed to be a endorsement of Max’s “non cynicism.” To which I would agree based on his themes/strips and especially his lengthy response two weeks ago when there was a heated discussion regarding plagiarism. He came across, besides writing extremely well, as reasonable, measured, intuitive and bright…all the attributes I would expect in a professional cartoonist.
    In conclusion, gotta go with my first gut response when I see a strip and I’m sticking with cynical: not the man, the rendering.
    And of course, it’s only my interpretation.
