Looking at yesterday’s cartoon post and the subsequent comments from our readers, I couldn’t help but notice that there was virtually no empathy or sympathy for the kid who vaulted himself into space with such dire consequences.  Our readers, by the very nature of their comments, found the content of this cartoon humorous and even seemed to take delight in the demise of the youngster.
Is this what we have all become? People who are quick with a wisecrack, a smirk and a wink at the misfortunes of others?  Are we so uncaring that this type of gratuitous cartoon content garners the laughter of others at the plight of their fellow human beings?  Are we all so callous?  So shallow?

I sure hope so, because we’ve got a whole lot more of this type of stuff coming and hopefully we can score a payoff.

A payoff! Alright! Hey, maybe the cartoon would make a good bumper sticker, eh?

Let’s do it again! There were so many great comments posted on last week’s cartoons that we are hosting another Comment Contest this week.
-Post the funniest comment of the week,
-Post the most interesting comment of the week.
-The winner will receive a personalized copy of a Sunny Street cartoon signed by Max that has been posted here on GoComics. The cartoon will be printed on heavy stock and suitable for framing.
-Make sure you register with GoComics so that you can comment. (Don’t forget to subscribe to SunnyStreet and help feed our egos.)
-We will be giving away one cartoon print per week for the 3 more weeks.
-So stay home from work or school, skip meals, plagiarize Mark Twain or some other humorist and comment as often as you like.

As the great Philosopher and Sage Anonymous once Said : It’s all Fun and Games, Boys and Girls, until somebody gets Killed. And Then…It’s Freakin’ HILARIOUS!

Oh for heaven’s sake – it is a CARTOON. Of course we have sympathy/empathy for REAL human suffering. That is why we need to laugh at funny stuff.

Hey Veridian. Great comment. These are the things that happen in life. We can let them suffocate us or we can face them and try to smile and carry on as best we can.

You have outdone yourself with this one, Jarett. “Sphinxter!” I hate to throw the word "brilliant’ around loosely, but you can apply that to your comment. Great comment.

Oooops! Hi YokohamaMama. I’m sorry if you didn’t realize that the comments above were just jokes that Max and I riffed out. If you have an opportunity to go back in the Sunny Street archive you would be able to note that I assist Max in editing and writing some of the cartoons as well as carrying on inane commentary with our great readers. Of course you are right. Unless someone is that rarest but scariest of all human beings, a true sociopath, the vast majority of people have sympathy and empathy for real human suffering, as you have stated so eloquently. The ability to show compassion to our fellow man/woman is as important as showing, feeling and expressing love. We do need to laugh…and as often as possible at some of the absurdities of life. I think it helps keep some of us sane. Thank you for your comment and hope to see you here on a regular basis.

Greetings YokohamaMama and thank you for your comment. Sorry that Tame and I threw the opening Abbot and Costello act out at everyone so early but I absolutely LOVE your comment. Tame and I try to keep things loose and as much fun as possible around here and that is why we try to banter with everyone of the folks who stop in and comment here. Although our purpose here is to make people laugh, I believe your comment has made some of us stop and think. It is greatly appreciated.

Does the answer to the riddle lay within the depths of that litter box?
