Obama didn’t really do it, but we’re $0.43 a gallon lower than a couple months ago, and it’s SUMMER! Now that the stock market is back over 13,000, that does have more to do with economic policies.

Our attitude on gas prices is well displayed in this cartoon.

Back when the gas prices first started rising past $1.50, a coworker started loudly complaining about it. He blamed pretty much everybody but himself. He commuted 20 miles to work each day alone in a Dodge 1-ton truck. He didn’t see how it could be in any way his fault for how much money he spent on gas.

In summer 2008, gas was over $4 a gallon. I told everyone “it’s not Bush’s fault”.

In spring 2012, gas was over $4 a gallon. I told everyone “it’s not Obama’s fault”.

Presidents are powerless in this. The supermajors are an unavowed cartel. They set the price where they want, when they want.

they have found out cohesian works, monopolies work. if they all increase lock-step, then it’s a multi-corporation monopoly.
We all know that the price of gas isn’t controlled by Obama, just like it wasn’t controlled by Bush.
That is one area that presidents just don’t have that much power amongst the stinkin’ rich oil nations.

There’s a lot of diversions in the commentaries on this, as usual. The underlying fact here is that incorrigible and vicious sociopaths in charge of huge corporations manipulate the costs of goods to maximize their god…profit. They use Fox propaganda to manipulate public opinion so that the majority of uneducated voters proudly and mindlessly parrot the justifying mottos and slogans of the corporate robber barons. We “wake up” and start screaming when it becomes a little too uncomfortable (comfort being our god) and the criminals in charge set back the price temporarily to put us back to sleep and then they continue to squeeze us for every drop of blood they can get. Things could be so much better if everyone stayed awake and found motivations other than comfort to guide us, I guess it could happen, but….

You’re kidding, right? The euro is plunging vs. the dollar. And oil prices are low in spite of the sanctions against Iran, which are significantly reducing the supply of oil to much of the western world.
Oil prices aren’t dipping (or rising) because of anything politicians are doing. It’s how the commodities exchanges price and sell it that determines the price at the pump.

Masterskrain: a college buddy’s father went to the Philippines to build increased storage capacity for Chevron. He said it was to stock fuel as there would be an “embargo”. That was TWO YEARS before the “Arab” embargo, he later told me when the “embargo”, orchestrated by AMERICAN oil executives, would happen, and the prediction was right, more than a year before the “event”.

You do know that under Obama even more drilling much deeper will be going on if it isn’t already in the Gulf of Mexico?

GAS PRICES FACT: Domestic Oil Production Has Soared Under President Obama | The number of oil drilling rigs in the U.S. hit a record last week, having quadrupled in number over the past three years. Between oil and gas drilling rigs, the U.S. now has more rigs at work than the rest of the world combined. The current oil boom has buoyed the projections of some leading oil industry analysts:

“It’s staggering,” said Marshall Adkins, who directs energy research for the financial services firm Raymond James. “If we continue growing anywhere near that pace and keep squeezing demand out of the system, that puts you in a world where we are not importing oil in 10 years.”

This fact was first featured in the ThinkProgress Progress Report: “Five Facts About Gas Prices.”
