The conscientious MD’s are NOT profiting, the insurance companies and their stockholders are. I’m ashamed of Carlson here.

The AMA has fought public healthcare for some time now, because they think it will reduce their profits. They’ve given considerable funds to the Republicans, too.

When will “doctors” attempt to provide medical care to patients instead of managing a business for profit?

ransomdstone, they once did. But as they were forced more and more into focussing on the financial side thanks to increasingly complex and restrictive insurance requirements, they became corrupted. Doctors deserve to be compensated for their important work, but too often they spend more of their time and energy on billing and insurance issues. My brother is caught up in that right now (a good Republican he is).

cdward - in addition, the extremely high price of getting an MD forces a lot of people towards money-making instead of serving patients just to pay off their student loans. It’s a highly vicious cycle.

My doctor’s office is inundated with paperwork— from PRIVATE insurance companies. It is my PRIVATE insurance company that insists on sending me the WRONG generic drug to save their profit margin, and it can take up to several hours of staff time from my doctor’s people to get me the drug he prescribed DISPENSE AS WRITTEN! Medicare requires LESS paperwork.

Saying private corporations are more efficient than government is perhaps the greatest joke on record.

The AMA is a lobbying group, not like the Bar Associations where lawyers, HAVE to pass their tests.

I have had experiences similar to dtroutma’s. It isn’t all that rare, and since I’ve had Medicare it’s been easier, both for me and the MD.

Two words we have to pound into our representatives; Single Payer. With those, two more; Efficient and Economical.
