Obama has asked his Treasury Secy to find a way to stop the bonus payouts. Good for him These bank execs are like a country unto themselves.

One commenter noted: perhaps they can’t legally fail to pay bonuses, but you could present them with a choice: their bonus or their job. Nothing illegal about that!

How about, if you get a bonus you also get hauled before a congressional committee to testify under oath.
Could that be done legally?
believecommonsense said, about 4 years ago
motive, I’d like a look at any legal contract that would force a bonus be given to execs when they fail to make money and are near bankruptcy … I can’t imagine a contract that would mandate that.
Simon, and make them ask for audits of their tax returns for past seven years if they take bonus

Good thought, BCS.

A bad agreement, bcs, that assumed the market would continue to rise. They were, if I remember correctly, a “retention” bonus to keep people there – like they should be there!

I think Obama should have some Justice dept.lawyers read those contracts. I’m willing to bet there’s a way to get those bonuses back.

tracht, Obama and his top people are trying to do just that and I hope they succeed.

Oh Stuart, You do’d it again. If I weren’t so happy these days, this stuff would really get me down. But, for those who are out of a job or lost their pensions, or both (know anybody) this is a painful reminder that we need to make some changes in the laws so this type of thing won’t happen again. I hope our guy can do something. Your Bud, Mr. Klip

P.S That guy at the top of the goComics page that just thanked me for the comment does not look at all like you. Way too much hair! Mr. Klip, again

ANandy; understand why you make the “idiot” posts you do … you’re the only one it makes any sense to.

The media has already forgotten that it was BUSH who started the bailout process, and made the first payouts.
