Where I live you can’t have sparklers… or “snakes” or anything else that burns.
We used to have so-called “safe and sane” fireworks, till ten or twelve years ago, when some young kids accidentally set fire to many acres of dry brush, which burned down a house or two. The town three miles south allows them, so of course some show up here anyway. The police patrol all night to try to stop them from being set off.Various charitable organisations that raised funds selling them every year vigorously protested the ban…but all the fire departments in the county would like to see them completely abolished.I loved sparklers and cones as a kid… I miss them…but I also remember when a second cousin blew off his finger trying to hold a “Roman candle” in his hand. We do have a public display…. too crowded for me, even in our small city…traffic is tied up and parking is crazy.
And Night-Gaunt… um….Guatemala has one biggish city and a few small ones…but is quite mountainous, with jungle, farmland, and lots of tiny rural villages, mostly very poor. And… of course…they don’t celebrate the Fourth of July!!
