    Sigh. I actually get more work dome at home. No one drops by to chat, coffee and lunch are right at hand. But except when the alternative was bedrest and paid leave I can’t get permission because this is the perception.

    BTDT – I worked as a telecommuter for three years, and sometimes my days were 11 hours long, but once in a while, on a slow work day, I would get similarly distracted…

    That is how my telecommute day would go. Sigh. I just don’t have the discipline to work at home.

    If I worked at home, I’d have to have a clean office to work in. I found that I’m too distracted by everything that needs to get done at home.

    The new reality. You’re checking up on your kid’s career homework… Meh, it’s Sunday afternoon, it can wait till Monday.

    @Bamn9502

    Straight shootin’ on that one. The day after my Mon-Tues work at home days, I spend a whole morning on Wed not getting anything done.

    Finally, after clearing out all the co-worker chat, help requests, fire stomping and a lunchtime nap, I possibly can get back to work.

    Bleh, the rest of the week is still full of interruptions. Hooray, weekend and end of annoyance.

    It’s certainly not for everyone. I’ve been a FT telecommuter for 16 years and I find I get much more done working from home than wasting time driving to an office, hobnobbing about nothing, office chit chat, bleh . . . I’m a bargain, in terms of workforce, because I work long hours (project-oriented), and I pay for my own internet, computer(s), office equipment, you name it, right down to the coffee pot. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

    When it’s warm out, going swimming is a great idea.

    Val should put some family members to work like my stay at home mom did. One sister did the housework along with my mother’s college homework. One sister served her beverages and chatted with her. The other sister just studied. My brother and I were locked out and had to work all day for candy bars and restaurant meals we bought.
