Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Glass and paper does less harm, or maybe a bowl if the spider is that big

That’s what I was thinking: a glass jar and a heavy piece of paper, maybe an index card.
When I was 6 or 7, I was helping my older sister catch bugs for her science project. I caught a little black spider that way- with a jar, a piece of paper, then flipped the jar over and put a lid on it.
LOL- I didn’t discover until I got home with it that it was a black widow spider.

Go watch Arachnaphobia and you’ll be done messing with spiders.

I’m with you. If they’re outside, so be it; that’s their “house.” If they’re inside MY house, they’re dead.

If it won’t stay outside, it deserves to get squished!!

Look up Huntsman spiders. They are big and very fast and very hard to kill. I have had a couple in my house. I am not a fan.

I’m surprised I thought a dust buster could kill spiders

Love the confusion/question mark from inside the handset vacuum (and Dust Buster is a registered trademark – should have the little circle R after the name). Captain Copyright Lawyer’s Former Secretary, signing off for today.

Gotta just love Wally’s inner child!

If a spider that grotesque scuttled that fast back into my house, It would be the central vac for him. And he wouldn’t be “pooping up” again anytime soon.
