To put it into easily understood mathematical terms: One Direction < the Beatles; Lady Gaga ≠ Aretha Franklin; 60’s music > all other music. And that’s the lesson for today. This will be on the midterm, people, so take notes.

50’s,60’s,70’s,80’s music was KING, they all had tempo and rhythm plus you could understand the lyrics. Todays music relies on heavy Bass, profanity and Scraming in place of lyrics.

You are SO right. The 80s where when the best of the 50s and the experiments of the 60s, along with the rise of new technologies came together. There has never been such a range of musical styles and creativity since.

Someday in the futurea bunch of cranky old people will be saying the best music, movies and TV were from today; and everything after that was just crap

There were some great bands that emerged in the late 70s and early 80s, like the Pistols, Clash, Ramones, Go-gos, Blasters, Cramps….but they all were pretty much done by 1983. I can’t think of a single act that has contributed anything significant to popular music since.
