Stone Soup by Jan Eliot June: Evie? Gramma Evie: Hi, June...how are you this morning? June: Well, I just read that three times as many older black people live in poverty as older white people. June: And despite years of civil rights work, affirmative action, and integration efforts, racism lives on. June: AND...I got a spot on my new pink blouse. Gramma Evie: I think I can help you with that spot. June: I was hoping you could.
Most people in America are stuck in whatever financial “class” they were born into because they lack the drive/desire to change how they spend their money and how much they make. Just ask the older black people that DON’T live in poverty how they got there, and you’ll get a surprising difference of opinion from those that are below the poverty line.
