Holly: Sigh. Aunt Joan's life is hard. Alix: Why? She lives with us, she has a cute baby, seems ok to me. Holly: That's 'cause you're a kid. She has to figure out how to make money, pay bills, be a good parent. I wouldn't want to be her. Alix: So don't be. Holly: It's not that simple, Alix. Holly: When you get older, stuff just happens. ALix: IF you don't want to have a baby, don't have one. What's so hard about that?
When Joan got pregnant she didn’t imagine that she’d be raising the child alone and trying to break even working at Val’s house, where she’d be living. Her life is hard not because she decided to have a baby but because stuff happened after that.
