    @Ted Lind

    No. Hitler tried to do what Hamas is trying to do. Exterminate the Jews.

    Opie, just because one of us may post a comment favorable to one side or the other, it does not necessarily mean that the poster is 100% on that side! Or conversely, if one posts a negative comment, he is not condemning ALL that that side has done.

    As you opened “So you’ve decided that Israel…..” How do you know that? It doesn’t contribute to fair debate between opposing sides. I have defended Obama at times, but there is much that he has done with which I do not agree. I have even defended GWB ONCE, but loathe most of his & Cheney’s acts. Hurling ungrounded accusations at eachother just wastes space, and keeps the GC censors employed!

    “Poll says 95% of Israelis don’t want a cease fire.” They barely mentioned they only polled those who favored Netanyahu and Likud.

    The kid simply has it right, and that applies to BOTH sides! (But, if that happened world-wide, just think what a tragedy that would be for OUR “defense” industry!!)

    NeoConman: No, these wars will end when Hamas is done away with and when the so-called Palestinians do away with the Hamas goal of the destruction of Israel. They could have done that in 1948 but as Golda Mier once pointed out: there will be a peace when the Arabs love their children more than they hate the Jews.

    If Israel could be sure of a permanent cease fire I think it would gladly let Palestinians have a state without any interference or restriction. But when you are dealing with organizations whose policy calls for your elimination such surety is hard to achieve.

    Prim Minister Yitzhak Rabin got close. The PLO agreed to recognize Israel and a cease fire. Israel recognized the PLO and agreed to stop taking Palestinian land. Rabin was killed by a Israeli Jew who opposed peace with the Palestinians, and the historic peace accord between the two sides unraveled.

    The problem with any Palestinian/Israeli cease fire is that there are many on both sides who don’t want peace. Hamas may want to end Israel’s existence and reclaim the land that used to be theirs, but the Israeli Zionists want to take what’s left of Palestine for Israel. You just can’t negotiate or compromise with people who are convinced they’re doing their god’s work.

    When you say “the historic peace accord between the two sides unraveled” using the passive voice as though it just sort of happened. But the reason it failed is that the new leaders of Palestine loved killing Jews more than they loved peace:

    Jase99; also interesting that when Sharon also tried for a true peace plan, he suddenly had “a stroke”, and disappeared from the scene.

    ^Yes, “they eat their own”, does have a centuries long history on BOTH sides!!

    This should have been handled by treating the Ebola case in situ. That is, take the medicine (or treatment) to the patient in Africa, rather than taking the patient from Africa to the treatment in the US. Treating the problem in situ would have helped contain and isolate the problem. But, no, the US government did it the other way ’round, thereby adding unnecessary risk to an already dangerous situation. Stupid.
