Nothing could have been simpler than to put the “not necessarily the opinion of” disclaimer by A&E at the beginning of the program.

First Amendment has nothing to do with this. First Amendment relates to government taking action against speech. A&E has every right to fire people employed by them. But people also have the right to change the channel.

It is not an issue of the First Amendment. Any moron has the right to express their belief. The populace has the same right to express their disagreement with that opinion.
This is the problem bible thumpers have with the situation now embroiled over the duck shooters.
The problem has more to do with money. A&E will talk out of both sides of their mouths now… try to distance themselves over the comment while trying to hang on to the $500,000,000 the Louisana hicks bring in.
    I don’t care…I have a life… Don’t watch any "reality " shows.

Apart from your bizarre and false description of progressives — forgetting that there have been a lot of Southern progressives (I grew up in NC) — I agree that this is not a 1st Amendment issue. He can say whatever he wants. A&E can choose not to show it.

Oh, please. This controversy is just being used by both sides to further their own agenda. Gay rights organizations get to be outraged that anti-gay sentiments still exist, pundits get more time in front of the camera, and politicians get to pander to their constituents. All while the public discourse further degrades into an argument between two toddlers.

Duck hunting is way different in Alaska so I never had any interest in how they do it down south.
That said, how do they justify firing him over a print interview while he works a live action show?
I do not have very many alternative lifestyle friends, but the ones I do have hear this poop on a regular basis from the fundamentalist christians.
This is not a good feeling but they seem to understand that punishing ignorant folks does not make those folks any smarter, ignoring the ignorant is about the only functional answer.
Nobody changes they way they were raised, we are stuck with them until society as a whole changes.
    .
    This takes generations of time.

The hypocrisy of A & E in CREATING the show and the “family’s culture” for TV, then chickening out is fowl.

An interesting point has been made about the difference between “First Amendment rights” and financial persecution, a line that is frequently blurred. While A&E is taking their stand for fear of losing revenue, they are also depriving a man part of his income because of his expressed religious views. I guess A&E is not an Equal Opportunity Employer, but then I doubt that they get any government subsidies. The homosexual activists calling for his dismissal are definitely looking to persecute this man for his religious views in calling for that dismissal. He did not advocate any harm or abridgement for them, so they cannot claim defense of their rights; and even if they were, him losing his job would hardly protect their rights. It would only punish him for holding and expressing views contrary to theirs.

So, you are saying A & E is run by quacks who are ducking responsibility?

Why not be non name calling and civil instead? They were two of the worst offenders among the ultra conservatives in a name calling lack of civility. Take a look at the posts of RT to see what you should be posting!!

    @Mr. King

Did you know there’s a duck called a Bufflehead?
    .
Yup, I’ve seen them diving in our San Elijo lagoon, here in Encinitas. Charming little guys, and our smallest North American duck. Lots of other waterfowl, too, and saw an Osprey today (besides the MV-22s out of Camp Pendleton). No hunting allowed (urban area), but duck is delicious, regardless.
    .
I noticed the conservatives were fine with the rocker (Ted Nugent?) talking violence – yes, 1st amendment is protected, but those in the public view under contract to a private company are subject to that company’s policies. No doubt, I’ll still get the screaming replies, but oh well… same ol’ same-o.
    .
Merry Christmas, all! Listening to some Marsalis, baking, making food for tomorrow. Hopefully, my Utah relatives won’t bring up their political views at the dinner table.

If you ask me, A&E was not playing with a full duck.
