“Mr. IRS agent, my wife handles all our taxes so I had no idea we cheated, ok?”.

If my wife had cheated on our taxes, I wouldn’t have known. I just signed the bleeping 1040 and went blithely on my way.

I’m the same way, but I have a feeling that the IRS wouldn’t care.

I don’t think O ordered the IRS actions, but I’m sure he knew about it. I’m also confident that his “people” made sure nobody directly mentioned it in his presence, for deniability purposes.

Such is the case of many Mike. Of course that is a matter of trust and I’m assuming you trust your wife. It says very clearly in the 1040 booklet (and other places) that “ignorance of the law is not an excuse for mistakes or underpayment” (I’m paraphrasing). In an absolute sense that is correct, law is law, yet with so many regulatory bodies in our country the regulatory structure is so complex it is almost impossible to comply with, especially the tax laws.

Believe it or not, the IRS is actually pretty lenient on people that make honest mistakes in calculation or interpretation. As it is also written, they expect people to exercise every legal deduction to avoid paying any more taxes than absolutely necessary. That is tax avoidance. Tax avoidance is what we are talking about with Apple. What many imply incorrectly is they are “evading” taxes, which is illegal. I guess we’re back to square one for solutions, if you don’t like the law change it, don’t bitch about it’s consequences, especially when you don’t understand it (I’m not referring to you).

the problem with the tax code is that it is so long that even their own agents don’t understand it.

Anyone that believes that Obama – or Reagan or Bush didn’t know everything that was going on is ready for a nice bridge purchase in New York….

It’s just a major CYA campaign..

None of them were any Harry Truman, but with Obama – the buck never stops.
