For more than two decades, political cartoonist Steve Kelley has devoted his attention to public officials the way the radiator grille of a tractor-trailer might devote its attention to June bugs. He has delighted readers by consistently consigning office-holders to the one fate they fear most: that of not being taken seriously.

Yeah yeah, the old outlaw guns only outlaws, etc etc.

What’s Kelley saying here? I’m missing it. Obama’s trying to stop a duel? Obama won’t let the suburban white collar guy own a 30 shot BushMaster, only a 1950 style revolver? Tax policy is the same as weapons? I don’t get it.

O gets the dead guys’ billfold.

@wmconelly
it’s the standard argument that if assault rifles are illegal, only criminals will have them. the guy on the left is a criminal. you can tell because of the stubble. it’s a well known fact that all people with stubble are criminals.

This only looks like an unfair fight. In reality the guy on the right can turn, aim and shoot faster – as long as both firearms are not cocked. He only needs to remember to take a step sideways, otherwise the death-clinch of the AK-47 guy will still get him…

The message is not clear. I think Pres. Obama would have both parties have a revolver to be fair. It is an odd cartoon.

If you outlaw murder, only murderers will murder. And innocent law-abiding citizens will have their rights taken away.

The guy on the left is clearly a criminal. The guy with the pistol represents you and I (non-criminal, law-abiding gun owners). Obama is telling the guy with the pistol that he cannot be on equal footing with the criminal. Get it now???

A law abiding gun owner who knows how to shoot accurately only NEEDS one bullet. I’m sorry Mr. Obama felt the only way to deal with this was executive order. It would have been better for this issue to have been settled by the legislature. That said, the legislature doesn’t legislate. It is unwise for the President to use executive orders. It is dishonorable, even criminally negligent, for Congress to do nothing about guns, jobs, emergency assistance and so many other things they should be doing OTHER than giveing themselves good pay and benefits.
Respectfully…to the commentators on GC,

So he’s also lying, unless “fair shot at tax policy” means “pay more in taxes”.

@Larry
No, that’s the point. Obama is trying to take the honest man’s gun so he has to fight the black market AKM armed criminal without a weapon.
ARodney said, 4 months ago
The cartoon, which is stupid by the way, implies that Obama ONLY wants fairness in taxes. In guns, he wants to give Americans tiny guns and let criminals have AK 47s. Which is not true in reality, of course — both criminals and law-abiding criminals will have access to an ever-reduced supply of assault weapons, and with actual background checks on all sales criminals will have less and less, and increased enforcement means that criminal gun shops will be able to be shut down.

It is my opinion only, but when I view this cartoon I see the revolver pitted against the semi-automatic rifle. Is that a “fair shot”? Obviously, it isn’t.
[]
So, Mr. John Q. Citizen is armed with only a revolver; Mr. Thug is armed with a semi-automatic rifle. Therefore, Mr. John Q. Citizen is at a serious disadvantage.
[]
President Obama is telling Mr. John Q. Citizen that he has misunderstood the “fair shot” statement that was meant to apply to Tax Policy. Mr. Thug cannot have his semi-automatic rifle removed from the equation. Thus, Mr. John Q. Citizen is vulnerable.
[]
Does that sound representative of the current situation?

Simple fact, if the guy with the revolver knows what he’s doing with it, and the guy with the rifle is typical of the ones demanding their “right” to have one, he’ll win the duel hands down, as it only takes ONE accurately placed shot, not a wild and inaccurate burst from an “assault” rifle, better called a designed for combat weapon(and suppression, not accuracy).

Hold it hold it hold it! “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” So what’s the problem? Assault rifle or handgun, all that is needed is one bullet. This cartoon is saying legitimate law-abiding gun owners can’t take a bad guy down with one shot! This cartoon is an insult to all legitimate law-abiding gun owners everywhere! Sad, very sad, Mr. Kelley shows he has no trust, he has no faith, in his fellow law-abiding gun owners. Besides, who says the guy with the assault rifle is the bad guy? Think of it this way; the guy on the left is a guy whose house was foreclosed on, the guy on the right is the banker who did it.
