    Yes we need new checks and balances and TERM LIMITS so no more career politicans getting rich with pork and gifts and endless benefits for life.

    Do you know it is illegal to obtains gifts, lunches, considerations from contractors to government employees.? A government employee cannot even write a book ! But if you go high enough in Rank and File within our government, they look the other way and allow it. Just goes to show you how unfair politicians have made this government of ours. We need to careful for the socialism coming that will be like Europe will worsen our lives EXCEPT those in high places. The new Elite.

    greeney, I go back and forth on term limits, I can see arguments both ways. But wouldn’t a more direct approach be public financing of campaigns?

    term limits in California hasn’t worked that well … the campaigning for the next office begins the day they’re sworn in … law of unintended consequences

    didn’t they try to limit campaign spending and it was declared unconstitutional? That was the intent of public financing of campaigns — if you accept public funds, your overall spending had limits. Course, they got around that by having “independent” committees spend a gazillion dollars.

    BCS, I don’t believe they limited spending, but rather I believe the ruling was that money equaled free speech. So limiting how much someone could pay for his political dog, could not be limited.
