For more than two decades, political cartoonist Steve Kelley has devoted his attention to public officials the way the radiator grille of a tractor-trailer might devote its attention to June bugs. He has delighted readers by consistently consigning office-holders to the one fate they fear most: that of not being taken seriously.

greeney, I go back and forth on term limits, I can see arguments both ways. But wouldn’t a more direct approach be public financing of campaigns?

term limits in California hasn’t worked that well … the campaigning for the next office begins the day they’re sworn in … law of unintended consequences

didn’t they try to limit campaign spending and it was declared unconstitutional? That was the intent of public financing of campaigns — if you accept public funds, your overall spending had limits. Course, they got around that by having “independent” committees spend a gazillion dollars.

BCS, I don’t believe they limited spending, but rather I believe the ruling was that money equaled free speech. So limiting how much someone could pay for his political dog, could not be limited.
