@If my words offend you - you don't have the open mind you claim to have

So everybody is running around with his hand on the grip in case someone else flips out. Then one guy drops his ice-cream cone and makes a fast movement to recover it. Next thing you know are several hundred dead soldiers. Say, are you by any chance an member of the Westboro Church?

I suppose you can get combat duty at the mall, or movie theater, or school, or pumping gas in your car, or walking down the street, or…
Let’s all jump on the media bandwagon and make some kind of pejorative phrase out of Ft Hood, just like we did for “going postal”, shall we? Won’t that be fun?
Or maybe we’ll just have glib, asinine troll posts like number one troll up there. What a dork.

In my state, there are now more than a million permit holders for Concealed Carry. Violent crime rates are dropping, not increasing. Most states must issue permits to those who qualify, and no state has ever devolved into the Wild West scenario that many assume.

Another great day for gun violence advocates.

Your name says it all; whatever you say it’s designed to be offensive. And you must also be conservative because they don’t think anyone else has the right to be offensive and get away with it.

In the “wild west”, you had to leave your firearms at the city limit and weren’t permitted to bring them in with you.

I’m not saying this is reality, but there’s a great old movie (1950), Winchester ‘73, starring Jimmy Stewart (and a gun). The whole movie is all about guns, and indeed the gun fighters all have to hand over their guns when they come into town. It’s just a movie, not history, but it’s interesting in terms of the historical discourse (as we say) about guns in the US. I recommend it.

Unlike in a real combat zone – he won’t be allowed a gun to defend himself at Ft. Hood.

Just out of sheer curiosity, where did that fantasy come from?
It was called the “wild west” BECAUSE guns were everywhere, all the time, and the boot-hills did a thriving business regularly.

The wild west wasn’t that wild. If yiou did something like this with a gun, they hanged you or they filled you fgull of holes from their own guns.

I think on a MILITARY base where EVERYONE has EXTENSIVE firearm training, the SOLDIERS should be allowed to carry their guns
Here’s a link (posted by to a Bill-O interview where he’s surprised (and dismayed) that military experts don’t agree with that arm-all-troops meme:

Well stated point, but I’m going to add a sad truth.
Each one of us has a price; to the government, to insurance companies, to companies that manufacture products.
Example. We would be much safer and a more ecologically friendly society with massive restrictions on automobiles. The price for such an action is so high (to the majority of Americans) that the thought of banning (or massive restrictions on) automobiles is ludicrous.
So to people on one side of the fence; are ok with banning guns because their lives aren’t affected in any way, shape or form. People on the other side of the fence have a firm belief that the benefits of a armed populace outweigh the incidents; just like the vast majority of American with automobile deaths.
For the record; I know of 2 people in my life that have died via firearms, and many, many more through automobiles.
