Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1993, Steve Benson has been a lightning rod for more than 20 years as the staff editorial cartoonist for The Arizona Republic. Benson sums up his career best: "I don’t aim to please. I just aim."

Let’s see…Romney is a “liar” because Obama says things about him (such as that he’s running around the country telling folks that the country doesn’t need more teachers), and Romney says that isn’t true. I got it. Boy, you gotta be pretty stupid to come up with that form of logic.

Yes, Obama seemed limp indeed. I was surprised, but the body language indicated a high degree of anger at the lies Mitt kept spewing. Turkey and Syria shooting at each other might, as Woodward suggested, been a bit of a distraction, but the real distraction was trying to appear “calm and collected” in contact with a flip-flopping dude that doesn’t seem to realize their are indeed tapes that prove he’s a fraud and liar.
I"ve never put much on recent debates however. Kerry should have used his very good performance explaining issues at a town hall meeting, instead of wasting effort trying to educate the public in a “debate”.
The simple fact is that “debate” is based on statements and rebuttal. There has been no such in recent presidential debates, only sound bite moments to seize. Such is not “victory” any more than selling Zingers or Twinkies is selling health food with your commercials.

I watched Obama head down and smiling. He
knew that Romney was lying and was
rehearsing attack-ads in his head. He should
have been angry, jaw clinched and stuff, and
refute the lies. “A lie can run around the world
before the truth got it’s boots on”. But he didn’t
want to be seen as an “angry black man”. What
is one to do in this conundrum? I don’t want
to be in Axelrod’s or Plouff’s shoes right now…

that’s democrats in a nutshell. If they had to tell the truth, there would be no democrat party.

Romney should have made specific promises. He should have told the American public exactly what he would do if elected. I know promise over and over again “hope and change”. Nothing more needed. The media loved that.

@MortyForTyrant
Maybe he was creating more attack-adds as you say in order to get his own lies out without refute from Romney and the media.

True…because Steve goes overboard. But I like this toon’s style. I would like to see more like it. It seems cartoonists dwell on one panel “skits” with a punch-line like “Far Side” or something in the editorials nowadays. This harkens back to a simpler era.
Now back to Steve… When did the Lib ‘Toonists take this Josef-Goebbels propaganda approach to politics? Over the top, man! The lies … Distortion… Straw men… I know why but I’ll get in trouble if I say it… Something to do with their relying on a MAN and not a party plank or policy goals…

You should have labeled the second face and the artist’s hand as “Liar”. Would have been more accurate.

@readerlady
Then Stevie would have to pull his ObieNation Bumper Sticker off his beamer…

Accurate drawing, Steve.

I’m trying to figure out why Steve Benson draws Mitt Romney’s hair as having been Van de Graafed. In real life, it’s always neat to the point of having been shellacked on. I bet he pays good money to keep it looking that way.
