Maybe some cats like to stare at things, but most cats cannot abide being stared at.
One of the reasons cats seem to gravitate towards people who don’t like them is that a cat lover’s first reaction is to look at the animal while the cat hater’s is to look away. The cat then approaches the person who is least threatening – the one who isn’t staring.
Staring matches with cats only happen in newspaper comic strips.

Our cat and new kitten have been having staring matches lately. I suppose the kitten is trying to find his place in the heirarchy. If he stares too long he gets batted
